Basic rules for all poker games:
Poker is played with a standard deck of fifty two cards. For some games
of poker, the joker is left in the deck as a wild card. We do not look into any
games which use a joker, however. Suits are of equal value in poker. A flush in
spades is no better than a flush of harts. Minimum of two players are required
to play poker. The upper number of players is limited by the size of the deck.
In general, Hold'em features no more than nine or ten players and 7-stud seven
or eight players. Poker is not a team sport, you play for yourself and nobody
else. Nobody else sees your cards, and nobody else should, but you. The world
"hand" is used interchangeably to mean both the combination of cards held by one
player, and the play of a single game from the initial deal to the awarding of
the pot to the winner.
Each game begins with antes or blind bets and then the cards are dealt. The game
is on. The goal is not to win the most pots, but to win the most money. Next,
there is a series of betting rounds, in between which more cards are dealt. As
the hand progresses through the betting rounds, the individual bets are pulled
together into the pot. A player is awarded the pot if all of his opponents fold
and he or she is the only one left, or if the player has the highest ranking
hand at the showdown.
